The Valerie Project started as an idea Greg Weeks had while watching the Czech film Valerie and her Week of Wonders (J. Jires, 1970) [http://www.imdb.com/title/ tt0066516/]. Weeks had become engrossed with the work and decided on recording a soundtrack for it. He and fern knight’s Margie Ayre assembled a cast of musicians from the Philadelphia scene (Espers and Fursaxa, amongst others),and began composing the music.
They premiered the work at the Philadelphia Fringe festival. The work was well received and the composite band performed follow-up shows around the country. A recording of the project was released by Drag City in 2007.
